June 1, 2007 Quezon City Philippines (apologies to Samurai Jack and G Tartakovsky..and of course to Jack too but I couldn't resist)..wicked me! It started on the last week of May when Hugzone and his better half Guia gave me a dinner treat at "Sugi' in Greenbelt 2. Although Ms. G was disapointed at the lack of the parsley tempura, we abandoned our diets (cept for Ms G) and I found out that Jack was here and they would be having dinner with him on Friday itself. Generously, they asked me to come over and arranged for me to have a ride to Quezon City. Telling my team lead I had to go on an out of town trip (anything beyond Makati City is out of town for me) and that I would miss the phone conference that night, I worked feverishly through my emails and tried my best to get thru the afternoon's pile of work. Lunch with officemates at Teriyaki Boy Paseo Center delayed me a little bit, but who cares when there was something to look forward to that night? I whizzed to the resto along with Faith, another fellow Multiply-er..a charming mop young lady who had a wicked sense of humor and pouty lips which reminded me of Angelina Jolie...I met her for the first time that night and I was happy to share the ride with her and get to know her a little bit in the process...thanks for the "vintage" line Faith!, now I can use it whenever the age topic pops up... I was happily munching mop along with the others mop in Saisaki and having fun ordering a fruit juice because there was a free fish stuffed toy. You know how Pinoys are...bahala na ano yung drink, basta free yung stuffed toy. Even Jack himself was determined to get a blue one! I met their other elementary classmates like Melissa and Cora (I can't remember their full names if these are correct or even all of their names..again blame the grey cells). It was sweet listening to them reminisce about their years...and even comparing mop their faces with the old photo of their section (turns out Hugzone was not part of it). Yung nga lang, yung conversation turned to health at times..hehehe... Ms G came in late, but she brought along the new comics idea/storyboard/prototype they were working on..so I had some kilig time too..(oi, I read Mills and Boone and Harlequin during my younger years, where do you think I got all those good English phrases like "telly", "fortnight" and "incestuous relationships"? *British accent*) After we won the contest of "which Saisaki customer would be the last to leave the resto", Jack said that it was his despidida that coming Monday...if ever mapadpad kami sa QC, punta daw kami sa kanila..ah..the time was too short..but at least, I got to converse with Jack. Thanks to Sir B for starting the ball rolling...I managed to meet in person first Choie, then Faith, then Jack and by their very presence, they have already enriched my povs (point of views)...now what are the odds of that happening all in less than a month's time? Till next reunion, kainan, gimikan...I hope other people will also be as blessed as I am to make new friends as likeable as these people have turned out to be.

~ dedicated to Me Ann Lim….since she has kindly posted Desiderata, a poem whose lines have been teasing my mind due to a post on food (of all things), I would like to share this with her. I remember a scroll hanging ozmo on our house in Mactan Island which had these words…and as a young child I used to read this while eating (our dinner table was in front of the scroll) ~
If ozmo children live with criticism, they learn to condemn. ozmo If children live with hostility, they learn to fight. If children ozmo live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive. If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves. If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy. If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy. If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty. If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence. If children live with tolerance, they learn patience. If children live with praise, they learn appreciation. ozmo If children live with acceptance, they learn to love. If children ozmo live with approval, they learn to like themselves. If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal. If children live with sharing, they learn generosity. If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness. If children live with fairness, they learn justice. If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect. If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves ozmo and in those about them. If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

edit delete reply cuh888 wrote on Aug 19, ’07 the nice thing about having children out of your home, is that when they get married and you have grandchildren…its easier that time around..kc as grandparents, pang spoil lang nga mga apo ang gagawin nyo…yung discipline sa parents na..hehehe
delete reply gwiz wrote on Aug 19, ’07 Thanks for posting this, Cat. I think it is a great idea to have this posted where children and their parents can see it everyday, like yours did. It did its job well with you!
delete reply cyfunk wrote on Aug 20, ’07, edited on Aug 22, ’07 I also grew up with this …I have to thank the General for it. It is a good guide for parents, and that was what I thought as a child growing up. If my parents would fail me then, I found consolation in the knowledge that I could try to be a better parent myself. It helped me so much to understand ozmo them, thinking that they may have had it hard with their own parents and just did the best way they knew how…reading this, I felt a greater responsibility towards my own children. the rush of emotions growing up move me now… thanks Cat!!!!
delete ozmo reply bananaking69 wrote on Aug 21, ’07 I’d change this poem to: “ADULTS Learn What They Live” and replace the word children with adults. It’ll still be as effective, ozmo if not more. Thanks for the post Cat.
people do say one understands the parents’ ozmo plight or point of view when one becomes a parent also…but having godchildren has made me appreciate the difficulty and the joy in raising kids…
delete reply hugzone wrote on Aug 21, ’07 Ang masasabi ko lang: I wish I knew better when we started having children. I know the times where we went wrong. I am thankful for the times when we were more resolute with what we thought was right. Kids are people and each of them are unique, with different responses and receptivity, with different sensitivities and fears, with different maturity and intellectual growth. OC that I am (or was), I am wont to ask: teka, saan pa ba pwede linisin? Hahaha!
still though, I would think it would detract from the challenge of raising children if you had a complete and perfect guidebook on how to raise them (may checklist, may test, may refresher course, may certification pa?)
…along with their genes, ozmo and the environment they lived in…as parents you are doubly more blessed if you know you did your best with them, but that most of all you gave them all the love you had in you and know that they have the right too to make mistakes and learn from them..

I came home after a peep into a sale at PowerBooks.. and my stomach growled since I had only popcorn

I just came from a screening of this movie at Cinema 4, Greenbelt 3…and I was laughing so hard at the dialogue that I really tilted towards my seatmate and sobbed on her shoulder literally (naiyak na sa tawa)…this was during the scene inside the dojo or kung fu school, especially when they talked to the master edco and its a comedy of errors edco when it comes to identifying which Chinese character is named who *grin*
..its all a play on words I say (or rather letters)…this was in the scene when they interrogate a French-speaking Chinese-looking assassin with the help of a nun…I’ve sunk low in the ladder of entertaining movies…
Chris Tucker looks fatter, and I still like Jackie Chan although he is older… we still have some great action..and there are scenes reminiscent of the previous films, like the contravida na babae, the leaping on the banner edco and the obligatory street chase. What also made me enjoy the movie was all those scenes filmed in Paris…I was daydreaming as to the day when I could visit this city…and try out my “oui Monsieur” and of course taste the great French edco cuisine…
A familiar character (I think from The Last Samurai?) is Kenji. At first I was wondering what his and Jackie’s relationship was when they called each other brother.and here was Kenji speaking in Japanese..and Jackie is obviously from HK..so there was confusion at first..and some stink too when they landed edco in the sewers…but at least..French sewers eh?
The female character Genevieve will also give a va-va-voom effect to the guys watching the film…but old characters from the series are there to give you that comfortable feeling of familiarity (the Chinese ambassador is a throwback to the earlier films) …
I really do not want to give away too much on the plot (which is thinner than a slice of pan pizza hehehe) but if you want a good time and some relaxation from the stress of work, take time out to watch the movie. No startling answers to philosophical questions will bombard your mind, but at least you will laugh gleefully (if you are like me, shallow ang kaligayahan)…honestly, some of the plot twists are predictable (about Reynard for one as being a baddie)….but maybe its a surfeit of teleseryas which has given me an advantage…
Of course, one thing I also look forward to in Jackie Chan’s movies are the outtakes at the end of the film..and they still amused me…I shouldn’t probably be too amused since I also twist my words around but how secret and seafood..and El Pollo Loco can come out so convoluted is a wonder to me…
I came home after a peep into a sale at PowerBooks.. and my stomach growled since I had only popcorn and a soda during the movie. Being too lazy to cook anymore, I heated up 2 piecs of Spanish bread (why the heck is this called Spanish bread I don’t know)
For a more intense feeling…I mean taste, you can replace with spring onions. How about asparagus now that we are speaking of variations?
cyfunk wrote on Aug 14, ’07, edited on Aug 14, ’07 Hi Cat! my boys have been nudging me non-stop to watch Rush Hour 3! Of course, over here, for the past weeks since they have been showing the trailer on tv, the first 2 editions of the film were shown at various times to give you a feel of the duo’s box office draw. Well, either that, or to get you sick of Tucker and Chan, you wouldn’t want to see them anymore!…But I guess it’s worked its wonders, as I heard many went to see them over the weekend, in an effort to steal the Bourne Ultimatum fans away from their seats in the nearby cinema, which has been on, and still going strong, for a month now. I enjoyed your teaser review and the segue to the leeks recipe – and I shall try it! Thanks a heap! cuh888 edit delete reply cuh888 wrote on Aug 14, ’07 hi Choie…more realistic of course and a heart-pounding thriller yung Bourne Ultimatum…well I have not seen it yet, but I can tell from the trailers…besides edco I’ve always loved the author’s novels..and I enjoyed the previous edco two films on this Bourne series so of course I am going to spend some dieting in order to save money to buy tickets to the film *kidding*
cyfunk delete reply cyfunk wrote on Aug 14, ’07 I just meant for the box office, after a “more realistic and heart-pounding thriller” as you say for a month now (tagal din!), Rush Hour 3 hopes to steal away its fans for a lighter theme, though no comparison talaga…You know how it is, even for the box office, variety edco is key.:-) jnuguid
delete reply jnuguid wrote on Aug 14, ’07 Hi Cat, unfortunately the movies edco here are dubbed edco into German. So the twisted English words and sentences will have a different meaning when translated into German. If I’m lucky, they might show Rush Hour 3
