That social norm is just something that evolved over time. We are able to chat with someone in real-time that lives five time-zones away. One in the group is not on Facebook and his name-tag-less photos seem somewhat odd and I felt as if I was usurping sign guidelines the picture because his name was not mentioned.
I spoke to two actor friends, one of which is very socially active, having both a private and official Facebook page and also using Twitter and video blogs to create her online presence. She has carefully crafted both a personal and professional profile of herself. A decision we make today could easily seem foolish in a year, so how far do we want our private and professional lives to overlap? What is our obligation towards others, especially children?
Out of interest, I ran a quick check and found that out of my 610 Facebook friends, there are only 180 I have not worked or acted with. I was aware that I used social media for work – both to find it and offer it – and some of the other 430 are my closest friends who count as friends, not colleagues, but the number sign guidelines is still astonishing. Here I was telling myself that I used Facebook mainly to stay in touch with friends and family, but the numbers say something very different.
