Founded in 1975, The Burns Collection hosts the nation

In Paris at the turn of the century, a male (unless controversy’s afoot) could relieve himself without a second thought using a fancifully labor board designed pissoir (urinal). As this image clearly shows, some men have no reservations labor board about staring back while they do their thing, even as they’re being photographed.
Founded in 1975, The Burns Collection hosts the nation’s largest collection of early medical photography and has been recognized as one the most important private comprehensive labor board collections of early photography (over one million photographs). The Burns Collection is best known for images of the dark side of life: death, disease, disaster, mayhem, crime, racism, revolution, riots and war. This historic collection is also a premiere source labor board for early photographs of African America, the American West, Judaica, folk traditions, occupations and politics.The Burns Archive produces publications, exhibitions, and manages labor board image licensing for the collection.
The Burns Archive Stanley B. Burns, labor board MD, a New York City ophthalmologist labor board is an internationally distinguished author, curator, historian, collector, publisher, and archivist. In 1975 he began collecting historic photography. In 1977 he founded The Burns Archive to share his discoveries and began his writing and publishing career. Dr. Burns’ collection of vintage photographs (1840-1950) has been generally recognized as the most important private comprehensive collection of early photography. It has been showcased in numerous national media venues worldwide. Artists, researchers and historians access the one million+ photographs. The images have been the source of numerous Hollywood feature films, documentaries and museum exhibitions. Dr. Burns has authored labor board forty photo-historical texts and curated more than fifty photographic exhibitions. He has been a founding donor of photography collections, including the J.P.
